Why I Picked Adam A7X

It provides a perfect balance between sound quality, design and also Adam A7x price is fair when you hear what you get. I personally love this studio monitor, as it has all the sound and features I needed, and I was sick and tired of poor sound and dealing with bad quality products so upgrading to Adam A7X is like a fairytail.

Who Would Buy A7X

Adam A7X

Studio monitors are not made to blow your ears out. They are built for precise monitoring of certain sounds that are often not even heard in “normal” speakers, yet have to be designed perfectly for overall mix.

If you are a producer, engineer, recording musician or simply enthusiast in love with quality sound, and are on the fence to buy monitors in this price range then you won’t fail with Adam A7X. For upgrading your current, lower class system, this is a perfect solution and we’ll see why later on.

If you are saving money for monitors and want to get the best ones that will serve you for years to come, common sense say that you will ultimately take Adam A7X into your closest consideration.

For most of us who are looking for decent low end and clearest possible mid-range when choosing monitors, A7X is an excellent choice. It is well suited for wide range of professional studio and home recording applications.

First thing studio owner should buy are quality nearfield studio monitors. This is the basic element in your studio. It is perfect for users who are limited with space.

Who Should Not Buy A7X

If you only want to have speakers so you can drive your neighbours crazy don’t waste your money. Hi Fi speakers are made to sound good and loud.

Good studio monitors are made to have flat sound, to give you precise picture of the sound. Don’t buy theese for partys.

Sound Quality

Adam Audio produces quality sound, and A7X is no exception. The sound is improved, and those familliar with other models know what to expect with Adam Audio. Essentially you will get very clean sound that doesn’t distort when you crank it up, which is what we all need and look for.

Buying monitors or headphones is more like a personal thing. We all have different tastes, but we can also all agree when we hear a quality sound. Adam A7X is picking up nothing but great reviews on it’s sound. Very good defined low end with crystal clear mid range makes excellent sound all together. If you are using them properly, as a nearfield monitors, you simply can’t be dissapointed with them.

A7X

Adam A7X Bass

A7X have low frequency limit at 42Hz. That gives pretty decent bass for nearfielders. Keep in mind that low bass can have wave length of couple of meters.

If you put them at the right position, at height of your ears, bass won’t have the chance to spread out properly trough the room. That’s why subwoofer is allways recommended, to separate low from mid-high tones.

That doesn’t mean that you won’t hear any bass coming out of A7X. As told, 42Hz is pretty low and it overdeliver the bass for near field studio monitor. It appears really natural.

A7X With Subwoofer

When combined with sub, Adam A7X becomes truly powerful unit. It eliminates the downfalls of the near field monitor alone.

This is an option only if you have the room that can take that sound. For smaller home recording studios sub is really not required, A7X itself provide great low sound.

While majority of users won’t feel the need of subwoofer, if you are a bass addict, you do need sub bass. Having a subwoofer designed to complement the A7X is great benefit. It is a bit pricey, but if you have decided to create a complete sound system no matter what, then check out the Adam Sub7 subwoofer.

Adam A7X Mid-High

80% of the time when producing we’re working on mid-high frequencies. It is logical to consider those as crucial element when picking near field monitors. Our wish is to have clearest, purest mid and high tones.

On Adam A7X you will notice alot of new sounds that you didn’t know they exist in music that you listen or produce. You can easily hear if you are over compressing  your work. I would describe the sound as very pure, real and three-dimensional, with an excellent separation of instruments.

Upper frequency limit is 50kHz. Now, that’s alot. All frequencies are extremely well covered, you can hear and fix every frequency of each sound.

While you won’t really hear the sounds at 50kHz, it quite helps maintaining phase linearity.

It’s really hard to find a negative review of Adam A7X sound, with new X-Art ribbon tweeter every issue that old models have and were mentioned as a downside on lots of forums are now fixed. I’m very impressed with the clarity of high tones now, makes a big difference when fixing the details in your work. Really fantastic sound quality.

Adam A7X Abillities

With 1 x 50W built-in amplifier for X-Art tweeter, 1 x 100W PWM built-in amplifier powering midwoofer it is a pretty fair and strong unit. Some argue that you will need subwoofer with A7X, that depends much on your needs. If you’re building a professional studio remember that this is a nearfield monitor.

For home recording studios this is a very good choice. If you are upgrading from lower class speakers, you will be amazed with the difference. Sound coming out of 7″ midwoofer is just wonderfull. It has amplifier twice  the power of previous model with new engineering.

What’s New?

Major improvement between the A7 and A7X is the new 2″ X-Art ribbon tweeter which greatly improved the reach of the top end and increased the clarity. Issues like hisssing, rattling, buzzing, chuffing, etc are history now. Adam Audio made a big step with this technology.

The X-Art Technology

The X-Art (eXtended Accelerating Ribbon Technology) is a huge improvement used in Adam monitors. It now reproduces the frequencies accurately up to 50 kHz. This makes a big difference in sound. The Art tweeter was always one of Adam Audio’s strong points, and new X-Art tweeter is now vastly improved, the change is obvious in sound.

Negatives

It is known truth that nothing is 100% perfect, and there’s no product that will satisfy every single user. While I don’t have anything to report about the sound or visual appearence of A7X, only downside that comes accross my mind is not having the magnetical shield around the mid-woofer will force you not to use it near old CRT monitors.

Is It Worth It?

In short: Yes! I’m pretty convinced that you will not find the better solution in that price range. Adam A7X passed all my tests, and quickly established in my home studio as nearfield monitor. I don’t believe that I’ll be changing my sound system for a quite some time.

If you are saving money for a monitor that you will have at least few years, seriously think about Adam A7X. You will get more than you expect from it. Getting such a strong and pure sound from two-way speakers is challenging, and Adam Audio managed to do that.

Bottom Line

I would recommend these to a friend. When reading real user reviews, you can see that everyone is praising them all over, and it is the bestseller at most stores accross the world. It outranked all competitors in the same price range. I honestly feel that Adam A7X will last at least a decade for me. After extensive research I decided for Adam A7X and I didn’t regret for a second.
